Digital colour restoration: an appearance-based approach
Keywords:
Color, lighting, visual perception, digital, designAbstract
In this paper, we present an almost-unsupervised approach to digital colour restoration in films inspired by visual perception mechanisms. The method presented uses a Spatial Colour Algorithm to restore colour appearance rather than physical colour. The paper also presents two examples of restoration based on this approach. It also demonstrates the flexibility and effectiveness of ACEforFilm to perform an almost-unsupervised colour restoration on both live-action and animated films. Thanks to the application of ACEforFilm, it was possible to remove colour dominants, equalise the histogram, control dynamic range and global and local contrast, and increase saturation.
